For many children, the traditional approach to reading can feel dry, unengaging, and even daunting. Founder Maurita Salkey, a passionate educator and advocate for equitable learning, witnessed this struggle firsthand in her classroom. With over five years of experience teaching ELA, Maurita noticed a significant gap in her students' reading levels. She realized that traditional methods – simply reading books or online stories – weren't resonating with many of her students. They needed something more, something that would capture their imaginations and make reading an exciting adventure. Combining her passion for education with her expertise in filmmaking and content creation, Maurita developed Story Detectives. She envisioned a program that would seamlessly blend the educational benefits of reading with the engaging qualities of video, creating an immersive experience that would foster a love of literacy.
